Easy Read Safeguarding Assessment Checklist

This checklist is for:

  • students

  • trainees

  • carers

  • advocates

  • befrienders

  • support workers

  • volunteers

It helps show what you know, what you can do, and when to get help.


Section 1: Understanding Your Role

☐ I understand my job role ☐ I know what I am trained to do ☐ I know what I am NOT trained to do ☐ I know who my manager or supervisor is ☐ I know how to contact them


Section 2: Safety Awareness

☐ I can notice when someone is very distressed ☐ I can stay calm in difficult situations ☐ I keep a safe distance if needed ☐ I know when a situation feels unsafe ☐ I know how to leave safely if required


Section 3: Mental Health & Risk

☐ I know mental health problems are not a choice ☐ I understand distress can change behaviour ☐ I know suicide warning signs ☐ I know when to take concerns seriously ☐ I know I must not promise secrecy


Section 4: What To Do If Worried

Section 5: Working Within Limits
