The central pattern is:
“I don't trust other people because they may
deceive, exploit, betray, or harm me.”
Common features include:
Persistent distrust and suspiciousness
Doubting the loyalty or trustworthiness of others
Expecting others to exploit or deceive them
Reading hostile or threatening meanings into
relatively ordinary events
Reluctance to confide in others
Holding grudges
Becoming defensive or angry when they perceive an
attack
The person's thinking can therefore be suspicious
without necessarily being bizarre or eccentric.
