We Are Just People
We are not special—
not above,
not below—
We are just people,
like you.
Different—
like everyone is different.
Who are we?
We are us.
People with Autism Spectrum Disorder
and other challenges.
But haven’t we all
got problems
in different ways?
Different
is what makes us
not the same.
We all have strengths.
We all have difficulties.
Some shine brightly—
creativity, focus, passion.
Some feel heavy—
anxiety, confusion, overload.
That is the positive—
we are all different
in our own strengths
and struggles.
But the world—
can be loud.
Busy.
Bright.
Too many people.
Too much noise.
Too much happening
all at once.
Our senses fill up
until there is no space left.
And sometimes—
we break.
Like the sun—
we can flare,
burn bright,
then fall.
Like the rain—
we wash down,
release,
reset.
We want to socialise.
We want to connect.
But it can be hard.
Not everything
is Autism.
We are human too.
Bullying can hurt—
because being different
is often misunderstood.
We may act in ways
that seem strange—
words spoken too fast,
or not at all.
Not because we don’t care—
but because we process
differently.
Some of us are anxious.
Some have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Some create,
some observe,
some feel everything
all at once.
There’s no smoke without fire—
there is always a reason.
Red can mean danger.
But it can also mean
energy,
life,
emotion.
We are not perfect.
Neither are you.
We all need support—
we just may need
a little more.
Because in the end—
we are not so different.
We are human.
