Training skills

Section 1: Levels of Support (simple but professional)

This helps assessors and students understand how much help is appropriate.

๐Ÿ”น Level 1 – Independent with minimal support

  • Prompting

  • Supervision

  • Occasional help

๐Ÿ”น Level 2 – Partial support

  • Shared tasks

  • Step-by-step guidance

  • Physical assistance when needed

๐Ÿ”น Level 3 – Full support

  • Physical assistance

  • Personal care

  • High levels of supervision and safety support

➡️ Important: needing more support does not mean less ability or worth.

Section 2: Daily Living Skills – Assessment Areas

These are the areas students can be assessed on and “signed off”.

๐Ÿงผ Personal Care (with dignity & consent)

  • Feeding support

  • Bathing / washing

  • Toileting

  • Dressing

✔ Student gains consent
✔ Student respects choice and pace

๐Ÿฝ️ Eating & Drinking

  • Preparing food

  • Supporting feeding if needed

  • Encouraging independence where possible

  • Awareness of dietary needs

✔ Safe
✔ Person-centred
✔ Not rushed

๐Ÿ  Home Living Skills

(For people needing less physical support)

  • Cooking

  • Cleaning

  • Laundry

  • Tidying

  • Health & safety in the home

  • Paying bills

  • Using transport

✔ Understands risks
✔ Supports decision-making
✔ Does not take over unnecessarily

Section 3: Living Arrangements (this is a BIG strength of your idea)

Support changes depending on where someone lives.

Where might the person live?

  • Alone

  • With parents or family

  • With a partner

  • Shared housing

  • Residential care

  • Supported living

Why this matters:

  • Level of independence

  • Amount of staff support

  • Safeguarding responsibilities

  • Daily routines

➡️ This teaches students not to assume.

Section 4: Disability & Support Needs (examples)

This is where your disability knowledge shines.

Example: Learning Disability

  • May need support with understanding

  • Clear instructions

  • Visual prompts

Example: Physical Disability

  • May need physical assistance

  • Adapted equipment

  • Environmental support

Example: Autism

  • Predictable routines

  • Sensory awareness

  • Clear communication

Example: Mental Health

  • Emotional support

  • Patience

  • Awareness of anxiety and triggers

๐Ÿ‘‰ Same task. Different approach.
