✍️ 1. Refined Advocacy Poem / Piece

See the Person

Please Park safely.
And please—do not park in a disabled space
unless it is meant for you.

That space is not extra.
It is not convenient.
It is necessary.

And please—use the word disabled,
not words that take away our identity.

Not all disabilities are visible.
You cannot always see them.

On buses, signs say:
“Please give up your seat for a disabled person.”

But what if the disabled person
is the one already sitting?

What if standing means falling?

People may stare.
People may judge.
People may not believe.

Sometimes it takes a fall
for others to understand.
And that is wrong.

Hidden disabilities exist.

You can have ten fingers, ten toes,
and still struggle every day.

People wonder:
“Why don’t you think the same?”
“Why aren’t you as quick?”

School can feel like a battle.
Like the world is against you—
even when it may not be.

You feel alone.
But you are not.

Many of us have been there.
Many of us are still there.

Being the child who can’t sit still.
Being called “out of control.”
Struggling to explain yourself.
Trying to be understood.

Fitting in feels impossible.
Standing out feels painful.

But you are not the only one.

Let one generation understand the next.

Some of us change.
Some of us don’t.

But all of us deserve to be seen.

See the person
before the disability.

Support the difficulties.
Praise the strengths.
Encourage the goals.

Put yourself in someone else’s shoes.

Because one day—
it could be you.

And when it is,
you will understand
how quickly life can change.
