✍️ 1. EDITED & POLISHED POEM

What Is a Poet?

What is a poet?

A poet is mindful of words—
from thought,
from research,
from memory,
from head to hand,
from pen to paper,
from keyboard to screen.

Is it good or bad?
Either way,
we write what we know.

We write
as if it is something special—
yet sometimes
it is just words.

Words that may mean something,
or nothing at all.

Is that poetry?
Or just expression?

We all do it, don’t we?
Speaking, writing, thinking—
a chance of meaning,
a chance of misunderstanding.

Just thoughts
passing through the mind.

Dis A Bility

Dis—this is ability.
This is strength.

Dis—this is difficulty.

Both can exist
at the same time.

Poetry is a voice.
A voice we speak.
A voice we write.

Words with meaning.
Meaning to be heard.
Meaning to be understood.

Dyslexic Poetry

What did I read?
What did it say?

What did I watch?
I cannot remember.

Does that make me “thick”?

No.

I write
because my mind tells me to.

I write
because that is how I remember.

I was told to remember books—
but I remember feelings instead.

With support,
I passed my exams.

Without support,
would I have?

Maybe I didn’t try enough.
Maybe I tried harder than most.

I am not good at everything—
but I am good at many things.

This is my life,
in words.

This poem is for others
who struggle like I did:

Don’t let anyone
tell you otherwise.

You will get there—
even if you’re not there yet.

Get the support you need.

Believe in yourself.

  • Or hard to understand

πŸ‘‰ That is okay

πŸ‘‰ Dyslexia can make reading and remembering hard

πŸ‘‰ Forgetting things does NOT mean you are “thick”

πŸ‘‰ With support, we can learn and achieve

πŸ‘‰ Everyone is different

πŸ‘‰ We all have strengths and difficulties

πŸ‘‰ Believe in yourself

πŸ‘‰ Ask for support

πŸ‘‰ You can achieve your goals

🎀 3. SPOKEN WORD VERSION (POWERFUL DELIVERY)

What is a poet?

Is it someone special…
or just someone thinking out loud?

Words from the head—
to the page—
to the world.

Sometimes they mean everything…

Sometimes… nothing at all.

And still—
we write.

Dis… ability.

Strength…
and struggle…
in the same breath.

I forget what I read—
forget what I watched—

But I don’t forget how I feel.

Does that make me less?

No.

It makes me human.

I passed with support—

And that still counts.

Because support…
is not weakness.

It’s how we rise.

So if you feel behind—
lost—
or not enough—

Listen—

You will get there.

Believe in yourself.

  • Support is a tool for success, not a weakness

πŸ’¬ 6. REFLECTION PARAGRAPH (FOR BLOG / BOOK)

This poem challenges the idea of what it means to be a “writer” or a “poet.” It highlights that poetry is not about being perfect or always making sense, but about expressing thoughts and feelings honestly. For people with dyslexia or learning difficulties, traditional expectations around reading and memory can feel limiting. However, creativity, emotion, and lived experience are equally valuable forms of intelligence. With the right support, individuals can achieve success in their own way.
