Types of Specific Learning Disabilities

 

There are different types of SLD.

📖 Dyslexia

Affects reading and spelling.

People may:

• Read slowly
• Mix up letters
• Struggle to sound out words


🔢 Dyscalculia

Affects math’s skills.

People may:

• Struggle with numbers
• Find calculations hard
• Forget math’s facts


✍️ Dysgraphia

Affects writing skills.

People may:

• Have messy handwriting
• Find spelling difficult
• Struggle to organize writing


🔵 Key Signs of SLD

A person may:

• Fall behind in school work
• Need extra help to learn
• Struggle despite good teaching
• Show uneven skills (good at some things, hard at others)

Learning difficulties usually start in childhood but can continue into adulthood.


🔵 Important to Know

SLD is not caused by:

• Poor teaching
• Vision or hearing problems
• Intellectual disability
• Cultural or language differences

Professionals must check these first before diagnosing SLD.
