📘 Six Stages of Advocacy – Easy Read Version

 


Stage 1: Presenting the Problem 🗣️

  • The client tells the advocate about their problem.
  • The client asks for support.

Stage 2: Gathering Information 📋

  • The advocate collects all facts about the problem.
  • Information is explained readily.
  • The client understands their options.

Stage 3: Planning & Options 💡

  • Discuss possible choices with the client.
  • Advocate helps the client think through what to do.
  • Client decides what they want to do.

Stage 4: Taking Action 🏃

  • Client acts on their decision.
  • Advocate supports, guides, and speaks up if needed.
  • Advocate does not make the client do anything.

Stage 5: Monitoring & Feedback 👀

  • Check if the client is happy with what is happening.
  • Advocate asks for feedback.
  • Adjust support if needed.

Stage 6: Closing & Reflecting

  • Advocacy ends when the client’s issue is resolved, or they feel confident.
  • Reflect on what worked well.
  • Advocate may give advice for future problems (but not instructions).
