📘 Easy Read: Key Principles of Advocacy

Accessibility

  • 📖 Information should be easy to read and understand.

  • 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Advocates help make information simple for clients.

  • 🏠 Advocacy should be free of charge and open to all who need it.

  • 📰 Buildings, policies, and leaflets should be accessible for everyone.

Accountability

  • 📋 The advocacy scheme checks its work regularly.

  • 👤 Each client has a named advocate they can contact.

  • 📞 Clients know how to reach their advocate.

Complaints

  • 😟 If clients are not happy, they can make a complaint.

  • 🗣️ Complaints give feedback so advocates can improve support.

  • 🤝 Clients may get independent help to make a complaint.

Confidentiality

  • 🔒 Advocacy keeps client information private.

  • ⚠️ Sometimes confidentiality may need to be broken (for safety reasons).

📘 The Six Stages of Advocacy

  1. Presenting the problem

    • 🗣️ The client tells the advocate about their problem.

    • 🤝 The client asks for support.

(We can expand the other stages in the same style if you have them.)

✅ Next steps I can do for you:

  1. Add this content to the PowerPoint.

  2. Create matching Easy Read posters (1-page symbol sheets for Principles & Stages).

  3. Update the quiz handouts with a couple of new questions (e.g., “What does Accessibility mean?”).

Do you want me to go ahead and do all three updates together?
