🧑‍🏫 What is Accessible Training?

  • Accessible training means everyone can take part, no matter their:

    • Disability

    • Learning difficulty

    • Mental health condition

    • Long-term health condition

  • Training should be fair, clear, and supportive.

📋 Checklist for Trainers

✔️ Use clear language (short words and sentences).
✔️ Provide Easy Read versions (with symbols, pictures, or larger text).
✔️ Allow extra time for learning and assessments.
✔️ Give information in different formats written, spoken, video.
✔️ Provide assistive technology (screen readers, speech-to-text, captioning).
✔️ Make sure venues are wheelchair accessible.
✔️ Offer regular breaks to reduce stress and tiredness.
✔️ Support mental health (check-in, quiet space if needed).

🌍 UK Support

  • Equality Act 2010: Training must be accessible to everyone.

  • Access to Work: Government scheme to support disabled workers.

🌎 USA Support

  • ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act, 1990): Training must be fair and accessible.
