Strengths and Difficulties

 


Everyone is different. We all have strengths (things we are good at) and difficulties (things we need help with).

Due to safety, it is easy to focus a lot on people's difficulties, which is not wrong, but try to focus a lot on people's strengths too, because everyone's life matters.”

๐Ÿ”น The word "disability" means:

  • Dis = Difficulty

  • Ability = What we can do

So, disability means having some difficulties and some abilities.


๐Ÿง  What could some difficulties be?

Some people might need support with:

  • ๐Ÿ“˜ Education or learning

  • ๐Ÿณ Household tasks like cooking, cleaning, or shopping

  • ๐Ÿ’ฐ Managing money and paying bills

  • ๐Ÿงผ Personal care like washing, getting dressed, brushing teeth, or cutting nails

  • ๐Ÿšช Getting out of bed or moving around the home

  • ๐Ÿงญ Remembering things or keeping track of time


๐ŸŒŸ What could some strengths be?

Everyone has things they are good at. Some examples are:

  • ๐ŸŽจ Art or crafts

  • ๐Ÿ’ป Using devices and the internet

  • ๐Ÿ—ฃ️ Talking to people or being a good friend

  • ๐ŸŽต Music, singing, or dancing

  • ๐Ÿงฉ Solving problems or puzzles

  • ๐Ÿพ Caring for animals or helping others
