Anyone can be a listening ear to those who need it

๐Ÿ’ฌ Listen Without Judging

·         Give people time to talk.

·         Ask open questions:
๐Ÿ‘‰ “How are you feeling today?”
๐Ÿ‘‰ “Would you like to talk about it?”
๐Ÿ‘‰ “Is there anything you want help with?”

·         Don’t interrupt or talk about yourself—just listen.

·         Show you're listening with eye contact, nodding, and body language.

๐Ÿง  Understand Mental Health Can Affect Anyone

·         Mental illness doesn’t always need a reason.

·         People can feel very low even if everything seems “fine.”

·         Don’t say things like:
๐Ÿšซ “Cheer up”
๐Ÿšซ “Other people have it worse.”
Instead, say: “That sounds hard. I’m here for you.”

๐Ÿง‍♀️๐Ÿง‍♂️ Be Present

·         Spend time with the person. Sit with them. Go for a walk together.

·         You don’t need to “fix” the problem—just being there matters.

·         Keep checking in with them. Even a simple “hello” text can make a difference.

๐Ÿ“ž Offer Help Getting Support

·         Some people don’t know how to find help.

·         Offer to help them:

o  Make a phone call

o  Go with them to an appointment

o  Find a support service

·         Let them decide what support they want.

๐Ÿงพ Respect Their Privacy

·         If they tell you something private, keep it safe.

·         Only share if you’re worried they’re in danger—and only with a trusted professional.

·         If you write something down or record for safety, delete it later.

❤️ Be Kind, Not Forceful

·         Don’t push them to talk if they’re not ready.

·         Don’t ignore them either.

·         Let them know:
“You don’t have to talk, but I’m here if you do want to.”

⚠️ Look for Signs Someone Might Be in Crisis

·         If someone says they feel hopeless or want to end their life:

o  Take it seriously.

o  Stay calm.

o  Help them call for help:

๐Ÿ‘‚ If Someone Talks About Suicide

·         Stay with them or call someone who can help.

·         Let them talk about their pain.

·         Remember:
Most people don’t want to end their life—they want the pain to stop.

๐Ÿ  Help with Everyday Problems

·         Mental health struggles can get worse with:

o  Money problems

o  Housing worries

o  Relationship breakdowns

o  Losing a job

·         You can help by:

o  Finding a support group

o  Helping fill in forms

o  Going with them to an agency or service

๐Ÿง‍♂️๐Ÿง‍♀️ Help People Stay Connected

·         Isolation makes things worse.

·         Invite them to join in things, even if it’s just online or for a short time.

·         Keep in touch—don’t give up.

๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ‘ง Remember: It’s Not Your Fault

·         If someone is struggling, it’s not your fault—or theirs.

·         Show compassion and try not to take their feelings personally.

๐ŸŒŽ Think Bigger

·         Talk about mental health to break the stigma.

·         Campaign for better benefits, services, and laws.

·         Share stories of hope and recovery.

๐Ÿ’ก Final Messages

·         You don’t have to be a professional to help.

·         Every small act of kindness can help save a life.

·         Talking saves lives.

·         Everyone deserves to feel safe, heard, and supported.
